Simone Biles

Simone Biles’ Emotional Waltz

Simone Biles captivated the world with her brilliant gold medal performance in the Rio Olympics last summer. But the winner of the all-around gymnastics discipline in the 2016 international event brought a television audience to tears on “Dancing with the Stars.” Biles had a challenging upbringing. Her father left the family and Biles’ mother struggled with addiction. She and her siblings were placed in foster care when she was just 3-years-old. Her grandparents ended up adopting the diminutive gymnast when she was 6-years-old. During the dance competition, the celebrities had to come up with a routine that mirrored a portion of their lives. Biles chose the roughest part of her life while performing the Viennese waltz. “My parents saved me. They’ve set huge examples of how to treat other people and they’ve been there to support me since day one,” Biles says in the clip. “There’s nothing I could say to them to thank them enough. Even though there’s no right words maybe dance will say it for me.” For more on Simone Biles, please visit http://www.teenvogue.com/story/simone-biles-opens-up-about-adoption-dancing-with-the-stars
