Roberto Luongo Honors Victims of Florida Shooting
Luongo's speech was emotional and heartfelt. He praised the teachers of the high school as heroes, expressed his pride in the students, and shared thoughts and sympathy for those affected by the shooting. Luongo called for the community to come together and take action, stating "Enough is enough." The speech ended with the player telling the students from Stoneman Douglas that they are and inspiration and that their actions give hope for the future.
Along with the tribute video and Luongo's speech, the team also replaced all the advertisements around the rink with the words "MSD Strong" for the game. The Panthers also wore Marjory Stoneman Douglas hats during their warmup and had "MSD" patches sewn onto their jersey sleeves. The team will wear the patches and Marjory Stoneman Douglas logos on their helmets for the remainder of the season.
