Michael Bennett hosts 5th Annual O.C.E.A.N. Health Camp

Earlier this month, NFL stars gathered in Honolulu to kick off the 5th annual O.C.E.A.N Health Camp run by Seattle Seahawks Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett and the Bennett Foundation. Other NFL players helped contribute including Deforest Buckner and Arik Armstead of the San Francisco 49ers along with fellow Seahawks teammate Naziar Jones.

The emphasis of the O.C.E.A.N. Health Camp was to teach high schoolers and children the importance of staying fit and healthy and the effect it can have on the body. The event included a health expo, fitness clinic, and football camp for current high school players and with over 800 participants and coaches showing up, you can confidently say the event was a success.

One of the focal points that Michael Bennet stressed to children and young athletes who partook was that life goes far beyond just playing football.

“I think everything is about more than football,” Bennett said. “I think any time as an athlete you can be able to transcend sports. Everyone wants to talk to you about football, football, football. And to be able to talk to kids about life, school, community health is something that I really want to empower young athletes to use their platform for.”

Bennet would go on to talk about his motivation behind giving back to the community and wanting to set an example for others.

“It’s all about how much impact can we have, and my whole journey is to uncover how [selfless] can we be as human beings, and how much can we love our community… Whether it’s women, children, or minorities in different communities I try to express gratitude for what they’ve been through and what we’re trying to do for them.”

There is a light at the end of the tunnel for each and every individual growing up and with the amount of influence that athletes have in todays world, it is easy to see why events like Michael Bennett’s and others around the world make such an impression.
