Dodgers Unveil Jackie Robinson Statue

The Los Angeles Dodgers will unveil the first statue in the rich history of the franchise and it will honor a man who authored, arguably, the most important “first” in Major League Baseball. Jackie Robinson started for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947, breaking baseball’s color barrier. On the 70th anniversary of the historic event, the Dodgers will celebrate the first black player in the game with a 9-10 foot statue that was designed by Branly Cadet. It will take its place in front of Dodger Stadium. The statue features Robinson sliding into home which he stole 19 times during his remarkable 10-year career. Rachel Robinson, the 94-year-old widow of Jackie, will be on hand for the ceremony.
