Capitals Raise Over $30,000 for Charity

The Capitals were decked out in green during the pregame for their Friday night game versus the New York Islanders. They warmed up in green jerseys featuring green plaid. It wasn't just for St. Patrick's Day, though. The players wore their jerseys for good - putting them up for auction that evening with proceeds benefiting the Anacostia Watershed Society and Anacostia Waterfront Trust.

The "Green Auction" was held by Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation during the Go Green Night and brought in $31,345 for charity. Along with the limited edition autographed green jerseys, autographed sticks wrapped with green tape and autographed green pucks were also auctioned off. The highest bid of $2,000 was for a signed team puck. The next highest came in at $1,850 for Alex Ovechkin's warmup jersey. Evgeny Kuznetsov and Jakub Vrana's jerseys also sold for over $1,000 each.

The Anacostia Watershed Society and the Anacostia Waterfront Trust both work to restore and protect the Anacostia River and its waterfront communities.
