Chad Bettis returns to the mound for first time in almost a year

Bettis Beats Cancer

The Colorado Rockies signed right-handed pitcher, Chad Bettis in 2013. He has been a solid starter in the pitching rotation going 14-8 in the 2016 season. However, Bettis was diagnosed with testicular cancer in late November following that 2016 season.

Bettis underwent surgery in November, but the cancer returned in March and he was forced to leave the team to receive chemotherapy. After months of treatment, determination and courage, Bettis will return to the mound for Colorado.

Bettis will start against the Atlanta Braves on Monday August 14th, 2017 in Denver, CO. This will be his first start since September 30th, 2016. In a statement reported by ESPN, manager Bud Black commended Bettis saying, “To see where he was when he was re-diagnosed, it was hard for us, because he was a big part of our team. To see him go through what he has had to go through, and to see him work his butt off – a guy who had chemotherapy, and how that feels – to where he is now, what a great story for all of us. It has been just wonderful to watch.”
