A Show Of Team Unity

In a show of great unity, a fifth-grade basketball team in Clark, New Jersey voted to forfeit their season rather than play without two of their team members, who are girls. The St. John’s team playing in the Catholic Youth Organization, had been warned two weeks earlier the girls had to be removed from the team or their record would be erased because they were playing with a co-ed roster. Before a recent game, officials told the team they couldn’t start the contest if the girls were still on the roster. The team voted to forfeit the game and the entire season. According to NJ.com, the referees and opposing team left the gym, but the St. John’s team that forfeited the game, decided to split up the roster and play against each other. Many of the kids wore t-shirts with the slogan #unitygames. For more on the story, please visit http://www.nj.com/union/index.ssf/2017/02/st_johns_cyo_girls_cant_play_with_boys_basketball.html
