Angel Elderkin

A Beautiful Moment

Prior to the quarterfinal basketball game of the Sun Belt tournament, Joe Foley was presented with the conference’s Coach of the Year award. After leading Little Rock to another 20-win season, Foley was more than deserving of the honor. However, Foley believed someone was far more worthy of the award than he was. Foley’s team was set to take on Appalachian State just after Foley was handed the hardware for Coach of the Year. Foley didn’t keep the trophy. Instead, he gave it to Angel Elderkin, coach of Appalachian State. Elderkin has been battling cancer all year. She has been fighting the disease all season but has continued to coach. Yes, that’s what you call determination and a person worthy of being Coach of the Year.
